Teessiders

Well , where is Middlesbrough? Most people think that we are in Scotland. Not too far! But we are situated in the North East of England, 1 hour from Newcastle to the north and 1 hour fromYork to the south.
In fact when I was born [1955], Middlesbrough was in the famous county of Yorkshire, in the North Riding. [The word 'Riding' deriving from the Viking word which means a third.] So I was born a Yorkshireman!

We then moved into Cleveland, named after the hills in the area, so we were 'Clevelanders'.
Now we are simply known as 'Teessiders', which is the name of the river, the river Tees.

But I'll always be a Yorkshireman!
